The geko™ circulation support device is a muscle pump activator device used to increase blood circulation, for the prevention of venous thrombosis, and the prevention and treatment of edema. It’s primary use in orthopaedics is edema management. Pre-operatively with ankle fractures the device helps get patients to the operating room, on average, about two days sooner. For post-operative edema prevention results in about a 50% reduction in edema in the orthopedic patient. Post renal transplant patients produce over three litres more urine and have a significant edema reduction using the geko™ device.
The geko™ devices adheres to the side of the leg at the fibular head stimulating the common peroneal nerve and thus activating lower leg muscle pumps. This action generates 60 percent of the blood flow achieved by walking for up to 24 hours per day. Weighing just 10 grams, the geko™ takes less than 60 seconds to apply. It is non-invasive and is fully recyclable. It is easy to fit, simple to use, pain-free, and can be managed by the patient or their caregiver.
Each package includes 10 devices. Each device will provide 24 hours of therapy. It is worn on either one or both legs as determined by the surgeon or nurse.
